The Thai entertainment company GMMTV has announced the immediate termination of its management contract with actor Justin Angus Moir following online uproar over archived TikTok posts that were shared widely on social media.
Agency cites principles against hate and violence
In a statement released on 17 July, GMMTV said it had carried out a careful review and concluded the appropriate action was to end its relationship with Moir, effective immediately. The company underlined that it does not endorse content that promotes violence, sexism, discrimination or material that could incite hatred.
The decision follows a surge of attention on 16 July when screenshots and clips from Moir’s TikTok account were circulated on X, with users alleging some posts exhibited misogynistic, homophobic and violent themes. Moir had only joined GMMTV a few months earlier and was appearing in the company’s boys’ love (BL) series When Oranges Fall.
Actor issues apology and accepts responsibility
Before GMMTV’s announcement, Moir issued a public apology addressing the resurfaced content. He acknowledged reposting an image of a gun and described that act as thoughtless and immature, saying he now recognises it was foolish and irresponsible. He stated that he does not support violence and that he respects people of all genders and sexual orientations.
"I sincerely apologize for the things I reposted in the past and for the hurt and disappointment they may have caused," he said, adding that being young was not an excuse and that he accepted responsibility.
In his statement Moir also reflected on support from the LGBTQ+ community during his career and described the criticism he received as a valuable lesson, promising to strive to be more thoughtful and responsible.
