Warrington-area Appleton U15s receive new kits through Royal Mail scheme

Appleton AFC’s Under-15s have been awarded new playing and training kit through Royal Mail’s Kits 4 Kids initiative. Club volunteers and coaches say the provision has boosted morale and attendance, and comes as the club continues to expand its community provision across Warrington-area leagues.

Appleton AFC’s Under-15s team has been supplied with new kit courtesy of Royal Mail’s Kits 4 Kids programme, a move club officials say has improved turnout and confidence among players.

The club — one of Cheshire’s larger grassroots organisations — was put forward by Royal Mail employee Andrew Daniels. His brother, Christian Daniels, coaches the U15s and described the grant as making "a real difference on and off the pitch".

What the award means locally

Appleton AFC, which was founded in 1974 and holds a 3 Star FA accreditation, fields more than 900 players across 56 teams. Teams from under-5s through to under-18s take part in a range of competitions, including the Warrington Junior Football League and the Cheshire Women’s & Youth Football League. The club’s under-16s compete in the Warrington Junior Soccer League.

Coaches say the new kit has had an immediate practical and psychological effect: players now arrive each Saturday in matching tracksuits and reported an improved sense of team identity. The coach noted the side were unbeaten in their last six matches of the season, an upturn he attributed in part to the boost from the new kit.

"This exciting new initiative brings the two together and we are delighted to be able to support Appleton AFC," said Greg Sage, Royal Mail’s deputy director for corporate affairs and ESG.

About the Kits 4 Kids scheme

The Kits 4 Kids initiative was introduced in response to requests from Royal Mail and Parcelforce employees wishing to support local youth sports teams. Staff members were invited to nominate clubs in their communities for grants to help with playing and training equipment.

Local consequences and context

The award arrives amid ongoing concerns around grassroots sports funding and the cost of participation. For clubs in Warrington and surrounding Cheshire suburbs, small grants and donated kit can support regular attendance and reduce financial strain on families. Appleton AFC’s scale — with teams across many age groups and leagues — means benefits from a relatively modest grant are felt across a broad local catchment.

For families and volunteers in Warrington, the story underlines how modest corporate-backed community schemes can sustain youth sport. Club officials say they hope the improved kit will help maintain the recent positive run of results and encourage more young people to join.
