Motorists and local businesses in Middlesbrough are being warned to expect disruption across the town this week as ongoing bridge repairs at a key junction combine with a string of short-term utility closures.
Key interchange works to continue
The most significant project remains the long-running repair scheme at the A172 Stokesley Road / A174 Marton interchange. The works have introduced chicanes and reduced the bridge to a two-way single-lane arrangement, with occasional temporary lane closures and full overnight shuttings where required.
During the repairs:
- Right turns onto and from the A174 are prohibited; slip-road movements are limited to left turns only.
- U-turns are banned within 300 metres either side of the bridge work zone.
- Overnight lane closures on the A174 will take place for work beneath the bridge.

- Baldoon Sands (full length): multi-way traffic lights for gas works (16 March–3 August).
- Bell Street: road closed for water works on 5 August.
- Burlam Road (junction with Hollins Lane): multi-way lights on 3–4 August.
- Cranmore Road: water works closure from 3 August–4 September.
- Kensington Road (outside garage): two-way lights on 5–6 August.
- Lower Feversham Street: two-way lights until 7 August.
- North Road and its junction with Florence Street: closures scheduled for 9 August.
- Overdale Road: multi-way lights continuing until 28 August.
Footpath renewals and verge work
