Work is under way on Casewells, a new food, drink and events venue being developed within Bury Market that aims to add a year-round leisure destination to the town centre. Council-released concept images show a modern interior with space for traders, a central bar and an area for live performances.
Regeneration tied to town identity
Councillor Charlotte Morris, the cabinet member for regeneration and growth at Bury Council, said the project is intended to do more than erect buildings; it is part of an attempt to create places where people gather and spend time in the town centre. The council has presented the scheme as a way of building on Bury’s reputation for shopping, leisure and culture while supporting evening as well as daytime activity.
"It draws on Bury's heritage while creating new opportunities for people to come together, support local businesses and spend time in the town centre," the councillor said.
The developers emphasise that the venue will reflect the town’s independent and community-focused identity. CGI visuals released by the council depict a characterful interior with separate units for food and retail, a central social hub in the form of a bar, and a dedicated stage or event area for live entertainment.
Operator, traders and local benefits
Casewells will be operated by Midlands Events. Andrew Burnett, a director at the operator, said the response from prospective food traders has been strong, giving confidence in the variety and quality of food the venue will offer when it opens.
"We're incredibly excited to be bringing a vibrant new food and entertainment venue to Bury," Burnett said.
The council has signalled particular interest in ensuring that local food businesses can access trading opportunities within Casewells and invited interested parties to make contact.

What this means for residents and businesses
For residents, Casewells promises an expanded leisure offer that could increase evening activity in the centre. For market traders and independent food businesses it is being positioned as a new outlet and source of customers. The council and operator have portrayed the project as complementary to existing market activity rather than as a replacement.
Images and statements released so far set out the look and intent of the scheme, but no opening date was announced in the material issued by the council. As the development progresses, further details on trader selection, opening schedules and programming for live events are likely to follow.
