A man in his early 50s has died after a single-vehicle crash on Papa Stour, police have confirmed. The incident took place on Friday evening and the man was flown to hospital in Lerwick with serious injuries at about 5.30pm; he later died from those injuries.
Police investigation under way
Police Scotland said enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. No further details about the cause of the collision have been released.
It is believed the deceased was Peter Peterson, who worked as manager for executive services at the Shetland Islands Council. Council chief executive Maggie Sandison paid tribute to Mr Peterson, describing the loss as both personal and professional.
