Cardiff University has launched a public consultation on proposals to build a new purpose-built student accommodation block of 665 beds on vacant land in Gabalfa, close to existing campus residences and sports facilities.

The site sits on Bevan Place, formerly occupied by the Brickyard Business Park. The land has lain unused since planning permission was granted in 2018 to demolish the industrial buildings that once stood there. The university's pre-application information describes a six-storey building containing a reception, a social hub, multifunction rooms and three external landscaped courtyard areas with seating.
The proposed block would adjoin the university's current Talybont student accommodation and nearby sports amenities, intensifying the campus footprint in the Gabalfa area.

The institution opened a 28-day pre-application consultation last week; responses will be accepted until Monday 17 August 2026.
