Free help for families preparing for the new school term
Families across Dumfries and Galloway will be able to access free school uniforms, stationery and haircuts at a series of back-to-school events taking place throughout August 2026. The programme, open to anyone who needs support ahead of the new academic year, is being delivered across five towns to make access as straightforward as possible.
As well as free essentials, visitors can expect a free lunch and the chance to speak directly with local organisations providing advice and support to families. The offer includes both new and pre‑loved items, with community donations helping to ensure a broad range of sizes and styles are available.

How to donate uniforms and supplies
Residents who can contribute clean, good‑condition school items are being asked to do so now to help stock the events. Donations sought include:
- School uniforms and sports kit
- School bags and gym bags
- New or lightly used stationery
Drop‑offs can be made at any Dumfries and Galloway Council Customer Service Centre between Monday 6 July and Friday 14 August 2026. Organisers emphasise that community contributions directly increase the chances of families finding exactly what they need, especially in less common sizes.
