Hounslow Council has launched an enhanced package of careers support aimed at school leavers as GCSE and A‑level results days approach. The measures, publicised for World Youth Skills Day, are intended to help young people in the borough move into further education, training, apprenticeships or employment.

Where and when to get help

Council‑funded careers advisers will be available for in‑person drop‑ins at Hounslow House every Tuesday during July and August between 3pm and 5pm. Young people can also call a dedicated helpline on 020 8583 5151 for telephone advice.

Service When Contact
In‑person drop‑ins Tuesdays in July & August, 3pm–5pm Hounslow House
Telephone advice July & August 020 8583 5151

Who can access the support

The offer is open to all 16 to 18‑year‑olds, including:

  • young people up to 21 who are care‑experienced, and
  • those up to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The council says advisers will help young people consolidate what they have learned at school and assist with next steps such as applying for college, seeking apprenticeships or building workplace skills.

Local voices

“My careers adviser was always available whenever I needed help, from going through the application process or choosing the best pathways for my future. Thanks to her support, I feel much more confident in what lies ahead.”

The council highlights an example of an 18‑year‑old care‑experienced young person and her 16‑year‑old brother, who have both secured college places for GCSE English and Maths as part of routes into IT and engineering qualifications.

Council priorities and context

Councillor Madeeha Asim, the cabinet member responsible for children and young futures, framed the work as part of a broader Youth Guarantee programme the borough has promoted since the pandemic. The initiative aims to remove barriers, build skills and increase confidence so that young residents can access education, training and employment opportunities.

For any young person unsure about their plans after results day, the council advises taking up the drop‑in or phone service as soon as possible to avoid delays in applications or missed opportunities.
