Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing of Sebastian Berhalter from Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps, the 25-year-old midfielder agreeing a four-year contract with the club on July 28.

Berhalter, who has been capped 18 times by the United States, arrives at the Riverside with momentum after featuring in all five of the USA's World Cup fixtures. In his first interview with the club, Berhalter said the attraction of Middlesbrough had grown as he watched the team over recent seasons — not least because of teammate Aidan Morris, a childhood friend and fellow US international now reunited with him in North Yorkshire.
“It feels great to be here. I’ve been watching the club closely over the last two years because of Aidan, and I kind of fell in love with the club, especially over the last year with the way they play and the way they fight.”
He described his World Cup experience as “incredible”, saying it had fuelled his appetite to improve further and that Middlesbrough was a good environment in which to do so.
