An independent vintage clothing shop in Bury has appealed to customers and the wider community after burglars smashed the front window and stole a Prada handbag, leaving owners with a repair bill of £1,380 they say is not covered by any insurance policy.
Early-morning smash-and-grab
Teal Tag Vintage, based on The Rock, was targeted in the early hours when two men forced entry by breaking the shop’s display window. The incident, reported to Greater Manchester Police, was witnessed by a member of the public who alerted officers.
"He saw two men smash the window, grab the bag and then just ran off. That's it, basically. Just one bag. It was a Prada bag. It was nice, but it's just a bit crazy to wrap my head around considering the costs."
Co-owner Linda Persley said the business had recently received a large delivery of stock and that, aside from the single stolen item, nothing else was taken. The shop has since had emergency boarding installed, a cost the owners say they have also been asked to meet.
Insurance gap leaves owners out of pocket
Ms Persley told InfoRadar the shop's existing policies cover stock and contents separately, while the landlord holds a buildings insurance policy. She said the landlord’s cover does not, however, include glass damage, leaving the repair cost to the tenant.
