Lincolnshire Police have imposed 48-hour dispersal orders in two Fenland towns after a spate of anti-social incidents that included alleged bomb threats, assaults and criminal damage.
Orders cover Sutton Bridge and Holbeach this weekend
The force said the orders come into effect at 19:00 on Friday 23 October and will run until 19:00 on Sunday 25 October. Officers have identified 22 young people as suspects linked to the reported incidents in Sutton Bridge and Holbeach and said inquiries are ongoing.
| Location | Start | End |
|---|---|---|
| Sutton Bridge | 19:00, 23 Oct | 19:00, 25 Oct |
| Holbeach | 19:00, 23 Oct | 19:00, 25 Oct |
Dispersal orders give officers additional powers to direct people who are, or who are likely to be, involved in anti-social behaviour to leave the designated area. Those who refuse to comply may be arrested.
"Reports of assaults and purported bomb threats are not a joke. They divert police resources away from genuine emergencies and put members of the public at risk."
The force’s statement quoted Insp Paul Smith describing how a "small number" of individuals had caused "significant disruption" for local residents. He said officers would use all lawful powers to identify those responsible and take action where appropriate.
Police appeal to parents and practical information
Officers urged parents and carers to keep track of where their children are and to discuss the potential consequences of involvement in this sort of behaviour. The force reiterated that such incidents divert police time away from other emergencies.
- Orders are in place from 19:00 on 23 October to 19:00 on 25 October.
- Police have identified 22 young people as suspects in the incidents.
- Failure to comply with a dispersal order can lead to arrest.
Earlier in October, officers had already issued a dispersal order for Sutton Bridge after reports that eggs and stones were being thrown at people and buildings. The current measures follow a wider pattern of anti-social behaviour in the area this month, and represent a targeted attempt to restore public safety and reassure local communities.
Residents with information relevant to the ongoing inquiries have been asked to contact Lincolnshire Police. The force said further action would be taken where appropriate as investigations continue.
For people living in or travelling through Sutton Bridge and Holbeach this weekend: be aware that officers may stop and direct individuals under the terms of the dispersal order, and that compliance is a legal requirement while the order is in force.
