A prolonged police chase through Salford that reached speeds of around 100mph on streets with a 30mph limit ended in an arrest this morning after officers successfully used a stinger to halt the car.
Vehicle driven dangerously across borough
The incident involved a Nissan Qashqai and lasted approximately 45 minutes, during which time police say the vehicle was driven against the flow of traffic in places, negotiated several roundabouts the wrong way and passed through an underground supermarket car park while it was in use.
Operational support included a helicopter from the National Police Air Service and a total of 10 police cars. Officers report the driver reverse-rammed an unmarked police vehicle, causing minor damage.
Injuries and custody
One woman was injured when her vehicle was struck during the pursuit. She was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. An officer also received hospital treatment for a hand injury after coming into contact with a deployed stinger while it was being dragged by the fleeing car.
