A 63-year-old man from Holyhead has been jailed for five years after admitting multiple drug offences arising from police visits to his home. The defendant, named in court as John Welsh of Kingsland Road, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on 17 July.

Court admissions and sentence

Welsh pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply cocaine, along with offences of possession of MDMA, possession of cannabis, possession of criminal property and being concerned in the supply of cocaine. The judge imposed a custodial term of five years.

Police evidence and follow-up

Police inquiries began after officers observed what they described as suspicious activity at Welsh’s address in November 2025. On that occasion, officers entered the property and found a quantity of controlled substances spanning Classes A, B and C. Investigators also seized a substantial sum of cash and items commonly associated with drug supply.

Analysis of Welsh’s mobile phone later provided further evidence of his involvement in dealing. Officers returned to the address in June 2026 and say they found Welsh supplying drugs to another man. During a search, officers discovered cocaine concealed in a sock on his person.

“There continues to be successful convictions for those supplying drugs and causing harm within the community of Ynys Môn,” said PC Reynolds. “These individuals create risk and harm to vulnerable people in our community and are a driver for linked criminality and anti-social behaviour. This positive action will continue and those involved in drug supply should consider their options carefully.”

Local impact and what to do with information

Police stress that supply of illegal drugs can have wider consequences for neighbourhood safety, particularly where it contributes to anti-social behaviour or harms vulnerable residents. Officers have urged anyone with information about drug activity in their area to come forward.

  • Where to report: contact North Wales Police or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
  • What police seized: Class A, B and C drugs, a large amount of cash and items linked to distribution.
  • Court outcome: five-year custodial sentence for multiple drug offences.

The conviction adds to a series of recent enforcement actions by North Wales Police targeting drug supply across Ynys Môn. Officers describe prosecutions of this nature as part of ongoing activity to protect communities and disrupt networks that can fuel other criminal behaviour.
