Hundreds of people turned out in central Warrington last weekend as Golden Square hosted its Comic Con celebration, transforming the shopping centre and surrounding streets into a lively showcase of popular culture.
Characters and crowds
Visitors encountered an array of costumed characters from well-known franchises. Iconic figures including Batman, Spider-Man and Deadpool mixed with Star Wars favourites such as Chewbacca and Darth Vader. Costumed performers also staged routines on the main stage while traders sold themed merchandise at outdoor stalls.
A number of children attended in full costume: one three-year-old, dressed as Buzz Lightyear, was photographed meeting members of a Transformers group and was among those cited by organisers when assessing the day’s success.
Organisers praise community turnout
Golden Square’s team described the event as a success and thanked participants, local retailers and stallholders for helping to create a vibrant atmosphere. They also singled out the winners and runners-up from the cosplay competition and acknowledged judges and presenters who supported the event.

In their social media message, organisers also offered special thanks to the judges and to the compère who stepped in at short notice.
Family appeal and local impact
Attendees described a busy, family-friendly day. One parent said the event had been both enjoyable and crowded, and reported that her child had a memorable experience meeting characters. The occasion brought extra footfall to the town centre and gave local traders an opportunity to trade in a themed environment.
