A man charged with the murder of a Newcastle resident has entered a plea of not guilty at Newcastle Crown Court. The case relates to the death of 25-year-old Gino Robb, who sustained fatal injuries following an incident on Shields Road in Byker on 16 June.
Court appearance and pleas
The defendant, Jed Grieve, 33, attended the hearing via video-link from prison and formally denied the murder allegation. Two youths, aged 14 and 16, who were charged alongside him, were present in the dock but the murder charge was not put to them because of their ages; they cannot be named for legal reasons.
Incident and aftermath
Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing on Shields Road. According to court and police accounts, Mr Robb initially sought help at the Raby pub before being taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where he later died of his injuries. Following enquiries, Grieve, of Orpington Avenue, Walker, and the two juveniles were charged with murder.
Next steps in the legal process
A trial has been scheduled to begin on 12 January next year, with an estimated duration of three weeks. The court also listed further pre-trial hearings in October and December. The progression of the case will follow standard criminal procedure, with opportunities for defence and prosecution to prepare and exchange evidence ahead of the trial.

Local impact and context
The case has drawn attention locally given its serious nature and the involvement of juvenile defendants. Incidents of fatal stabbings prompt questions over community safety, knife crime prevention work and support for victims’ families. As the criminal process continues, further court hearings will outline the evidence each side intends to rely on and set a timetable for trial preparations.
