Greater Manchester Police have launched an appeal after a man in his late 50s suffered serious injuries in a collision on Gathurst Road, Wigan on Tuesday afternoon.

Incident and investigation

Officers attended the scene at about 3.30pm following reports that a car had struck a man who was standing in the carriageway while helping an HGV reverse from a side street. The 58-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment with what the force has described as serious injuries. The driver of the car stayed at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

"The incident occurred at around 3.30pm when a car travelling along Gathurst Road collided with a man who was standing in the carriageway acting as a banksman for an HGV that was reversing out of a side street,"

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident, or who has relevant footage, to contact them. The force has asked for material from CCTV, dashcams, doorbell cameras or mobile phones that might help establish exactly what happened.
