A new supported accommodation centre for care‑experienced young people is due to open in Irvine next month, offering a step towards independent living for those leaving full‑time care across North Ayrshire.
What Boyle Street will provide
The facility, to be known as Boyle Street, will accommodate young people aged 16 to 21 who no longer need full‑time care but would benefit from additional backing while they learn the day‑to‑day skills needed to manage their own tenancy.
- Individual comfortable bedrooms with en‑suite or private bathroom facilities
- Shared living spaces designed to promote independent routines
- 24/7 on‑site staffing and trauma‑informed support
- Close proximity to local transport links to access employment, education and community activities
- Practical support in budgeting, cooking and tenancy management
The service will be operated by Blue Triangle, a social care provider working with North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership (NAHSCP). Blue Triangle describes its approach as person‑centred and trauma‑informed, and will work alongside a range of local agencies to provide wider support.
Why the service was developed
Boyle Street is the result of work by NAHSCP’s Brighter Pathways Programme Board, established in April 2024 to review how services for care‑experienced children and young people can be remodelled to offer better support into adulthood. The board’s aim is to ensure people leaving care have access to appropriate resources as they move to independent living.
“The move from full time care to independent living can be a challenging time for young people, and the right support at the right time can make a lasting difference as they move into adulthood and prepare to take on their own tenancy.
Local families, foster carers and professionals have repeatedly highlighted the need for supported step‑down accommodation to bridge the gap between residential or foster care and wholly independent tenancies. Boyle Street is intended to offer that bridge, with a focus on building confidence and practical skills.
Local partnerships and practical help
Besides the in‑house support, young people at Boyle Street will be able to access services across North Ayrshire including housing advice, employability assistance and financial resilience programmes such as Money Smart. That wraparound provision aims to reduce the risk of tenancy breakdown and help young people maintain independence.

For many young people, being near public transport is crucial to accessing college, work and social networks; Boyle Street’s location has been selected with that in mind. Staff will support residents with everyday routines such as meal planning, household budgeting and managing bills — practical tasks that can otherwise present real barriers during the transition to independent living.
The new service adds to the range of options available locally for young people with care backgrounds and represents a targeted attempt by local services to reduce long‑term disadvantage by supporting independence early on.
Further details about referrals and the opening date are expected from North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership and Blue Triangle ahead of the launch next month.
