OnFife has outlined a programme of summer activities designed to keep children — and adults — engaged during the school holidays, with an emphasis on affordable events delivered through the council’s library and venue network.
Libraries offering hands-on seasonal activities
Several libraries across Fife will stage creative workshops and regular sessions aimed at different age groups. Named venues include Benarty, Cowdenbeath, Crossgates, the Jennie Lee in Lochgelly and Kelty. Offerings range from craft projects for younger children to social hobbies for older youngsters.
- Craft workshops: felting, recycling fabrics, paper sculptures, bird wall-hangings
- Activities for older children: line-dancing, knitting and crochet
- Early years provision: Bookbug sessions for pre-school children
- Reading incentive: the Fife Reading Challenge running until 31 August
OnFife’s head of customer engagement, Suzie Dempsey, highlighted the range of events and the organisation’s refreshed online presence.
“There’s always something to suit all tastes going on in our venues across Fife – most of them free or great value for money – and our new-look website can give you lots of ideas.”
Most library sessions are free to attend; donations towards the cost of materials are welcomed. Families and individuals are encouraged to check local branch listings or visit www.onfife.com for full details and times.
Live music at the Lochgelly Centre
For older audiences, the Lochgelly Centre has two nights of live entertainment announced for late July and early August.
| Date | Event | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 30 July | Legends of the 60’s Show | Tribute performances covering artists such as Elvis, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones; over 40 hits |
| Saturday 8 August | Rat Pack Live | Featuring David Alacey as Frank Sinatra, Ashley Campbell as Sammy Davis Jr and Tim Harwood as Dean Martin |
The Rat Pack billing lists well-known songs including “My Way”, “Mr Bojangles”, “New York, New York”, “Amore” and “Come Fly With Me”. Ticketing and performance times are available through OnFife’s venue pages.
These summer provisions reflect the council-run charity’s broader aim to sustain community engagement through accessible cultural and learning opportunities during the school break. Residents planning activities should check individual library pages for booking requirements and session ages before attending.
