Local families are being urged to plan ahead as Caerphilly County Borough prepares to host a six-week programme of summer activities aimed at children and young people.
Swimming, sport and outdoor adventure
The programme brings together sessions organised by Leisure Lifestyle, Sport Caerphilly and Caerphilly Play, providing a mixture of paid and free offers across the borough. Activities include a variety of swimming options — such as inflatable sessions, family fun swims and short intensive lessons described as crash courses — alongside sports provision and outdoor pursuits.
Sport Caerphilly will run the borough’s Sport Scheme sessions, plus separate football and athletics camps. In partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association, free coached Park Tennis sessions will take place at two venues over eight weekends.
| Activity | Location | When |
|---|---|---|
| Park Tennis (free coached sessions) | Blackwood Showfields Tennis Courts | From Saturday 18 July, weekends for eight weeks |
| Park Tennis (free coached sessions) | Ystrad Mynach Tennis Courts | From Sunday 19 July, weekends for eight weeks |
| Climbing wall sessions | Centre for Skills and Learning | Every Tuesday and Wednesday during the holidays |
| Junior Adventure Days | Various outdoor locations | Every Monday during the holidays |
Free play and accessibility
Caerphilly Play will operate free Pop up Play and Play in the Park sessions in communities across the borough, offering local opportunities for informal play and exploration. Most play sessions are free to attend; however, the Disability Pop up Play sessions have limited spaces and require advance booking.
“We’ve got another fantastic programme of activities planned this summer, with something for everyone right across the borough,” said Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure.
Organisers have emphasised that details and booking options are centralised through the Leisure Lifestyle app. Sport Scheme sessions and the various sports camps can be booked via the same app, while the Park Tennis weekends have a separate online booking route.
- Download the Leisure Lifestyle app to view full timetables and book eligible sessions.
- Park Tennis bookings are made online through the LTA-linked booking system.
- Disability Pop up Play sessions require advance booking due to limited capacity.
For families in Caerphilly looking to balance childcare and holiday plans, the mix of free and paid activities provides options across the borough. Readers are advised to check session availability early, as popular slots — particularly free coached tennis and family swim sessions — are likely to fill quickly.
Further information, including full activity listings and booking links, is available in the Leisure Lifestyle app and the council’s Sport and Leisure channels.
