Motorists should expect an overnight closure on the M876 northbound this Friday as essential safety barrier replacement takes place where the carriageway diverges from the M80.
When and where
The closure will be in force from 7.30pm on Friday, 17 July until 6am on Saturday, 18 July. Work is being undertaken by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland and follows recent gantry replacement operations in the area.
Signed diversion and estimated delay
Traffic Scotland has confirmed a fully signposted diversion will guide northbound drivers away from the closed section. The route uses the M80 and M9 and adds roughly 5.4 miles and about six minutes to journeys affected by the closure.
- Follow the M80 northbound to Junction 9 (Pirnhall Interchange)
- Join the M9 southbound to Junction 7 (Kinnaird House)
- From there, either continue south on the M9 or use the M876 eastbound to Junction 3 (Bowtrees) to return westbound if required
Who is carrying out the work and why
BEAR Scotland, the operating company responsible for the trunk road network for Transport Scotland, will complete the barrier replacement overnight to reduce disruption during daytime hours. The firm carried out the recent gantry works that prompted the need for the updated safety barrier installation.
“Major works on the M80 are nearing completion and one further northbound carriageway closure is required, on the M876 where it diverges from the M80. We’ll do this at night to minimise disruption, however our advice is to plan ahead and allow extra time for the diversion if you do need to travel northbound on the M876 this Friday night.”
Practical information for drivers
All planned works are weather dependent and could be postponed if conditions are unsuitable. Drivers should consult live sources for updates before setting off.

Local road users and businesses reliant on the M876 should factor the closure into travel plans for Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
