Motorists in the Camelon area are being asked to plan alternative journeys after Falkirk Council issued a temporary traffic order covering two roads to allow essential works to take place.
Where and when the closures apply
The council has imposed a prohibition of vehicles on a short section of Watling Street, Camelon, adjacent to the A803, while utility works are completed. That restriction will be in force from the morning of Friday 17 July until late on Sunday 26 July.
A separate closure affects the A803 (Glasgow Road) between the junction at Camelon Roundabout and the junction with Hamilton Street. Carriageway repairs on that stretch are scheduled to take place between the morning of Monday 20 July and the afternoon of Thursday 23 July.
Recommended diversions and practical advice
Drivers are being asked to follow the signed diversion routes while the roads are closed. The council has published alternative routes to reduce disruption for through traffic and local journeys.
- For the Watling Street closure use: Watling Street – Wall Street – Wilson Road – A803 (or the reverse).
- For the A803 carriageway works follow the motorway diversion: A803 – M876 – A9 – Camelon Roundabout; non-motorway traffic should use A803 – B905 – A9 – Camelon Roundabout (and vice versa).
The council order is made under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to permit the necessary repair and utility activity to proceed safely.
| Road | Closure dates | Reason | Key diversion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Watling Street, Camelon | 17 July (08:00) to 26 July (17:00) | Utility works | Watling St – Wall St – Wilson Rd – A803 |
| A803 (Glasgow Road) | 20 July (07:30) to 23 July (17:00) | Carriageway repairs | A803 – M876 – A9 / A803 – B905 – A9 (non-motorway) |
Local drivers, commercial vehicle operators and bus companies should allow extra time for journeys and observe temporary signage. Road users are reminded that diversion routes will be in place for safety while the works proceed and that timings may be subject to change if works are delayed or brought forward.
Further updates will be published by the council if there are changes to the schedule. Check local council notices and travel information before setting out.
