Construction has begun on what Falkirk Council says will be its largest council housing development to date on the site of the former Denny High School.
Project details and timescale
The council has confirmed that site preparation and infrastructure works, which began in December 2025, have finished and that Clark Contracts Ltd is now on site to erect the homes. The scheme is being designed and managed by the council’s in‑house architects and is due for completion in November 2028.
The overall budget for the project is £36 million. Of that, £14 million comes from grant support provided by the Scottish Government, with the remainder covered by council funding.
What will be built
The development will deliver 137 energy‑efficient dwellings for social rent, planned to meet a range of household needs. The mix includes a majority of smaller homes alongside family housing and fully accessible units.

- 10 four‑bedroom homes

Accessibility provision will include 25 homes meeting ambulant standards and 7 fully wheelchair accessible properties. The council says individual homes will be advertised in line with its allocations policy as the development nears completion.

Council view and local context
"It's fantastic to see construction now underway at what will be our largest council housing development to date. This is a significant investment in Denny and in the future of council housing across Falkirk," said Councillor Stacey Devine, spokesperson for Housing.
The Denny scheme follows a series of recent council projects. During 2024/25 the authority delivered 111 homes at Woodend Farm in Hallglen and also brought 49 properties back into council ownership, part of a continuing effort to increase the local supply of affordable accommodation.
Council leaders and the contractor will now move through the construction phases over the next three years.
