Motorists and traders in Camelon are braced for prolonged disruption after the council began a carriageway resurfacing scheme on Main Street this weekend that is scheduled to run for up to 13 weeks.

Scope and timing of the works

The resurfacing on Camelon Main Street started on Saturday 25 July and is due to finish on 24 October. The project follows earlier temporary closures on Glasgow Road to allow for carriageway resurfacing between the Stirling Road roundabout and Redbrae Road.

In addition to the council scheme, SP Energy Networks is carrying out infrastructure upgrades between Bonnybridge and Bainsford substations which will affect the same corridor. That work will involve the installation of cabling and the construction of new link chambers and is timetabled to take place from 30 July to 7 August.

How traffic will be managed

Drivers should expect rolling traffic controls and sections of narrowed lanes on both Glasgow Road and Main Street while the energy company completes its works. The council has already implemented closures during earlier resurfacing activity and further local traffic measures are likely as the combined programmes proceed.

  • Council resurfacing: Camelon Main Street — 25 July to 24 October (up to 13 weeks)
  • SP Energy Networks: Glasgow Road (Bonnybridge–Bainsford works) — 30 July to 7 August
  • Immediate effect: rolling traffic lights and lane narrowing during energy works

Impact on local community

The overlapping programmes are likely to prolong journey times for commuters and delivery traffic and could affect footfall for businesses on Main Street. Residents are advised to plan alternative routes where possible and to allow extra time for essential journeys through Camelon while works are in progress.

Falkirk Council has been approached for comment on the schemes and details of proposed traffic management during the full duration of the resurfacing. In the meantime, road users are being encouraged to follow signage, obey temporary traffic controls and check local authority updates if planning travel through Camelon.
