The winners of the preliminary tie will progress to face Bradford City in the first round on Saturday 8 August. The match represents the club's first opportunity for silverware this season and comes as both clubs begin the campaign under new management; Tranmere appointed Darrell Clarke during the close season after a period with interim managers.

Manager Ian Watson has confirmed a number of injury concerns following recent pre-season action. Two players are reported to be awaiting scans after suffering knocks in a friendly with FC Halifax Town:

Tickets are available through the club's ticketing partner Fanbase. After a 48-hour priority window for season-ticket holders, tickets moved to general sale. Visiting supporters will be accommodated in the all-seated Cowsheds End, on the south side of Prenton Park.
