An investigation has been opened by the Environment Agency after a substantial fire at an illegal waste site in Smallbridge, Rochdale.
Fire tackled through the night
Firefighters were called to the site off Spring Mill Walk at about 8.15pm on Friday 24 July. Crews worked through the night and remained at the scene until around 1pm the following day as they brought the blaze under control.
The incident drew significant attention locally after thick plumes of smoke were reported billowing above the area and visible for miles.
