Local firms invited to register interest in Corr Chnoc project
Galileo Empower has opened a supplier registration portal to allow businesses across Argyll and Bute to register their interest in contracts related to the proposed Corr Chnoc Wind Farm, a development sited on the Dunach Estate north-east of Kilmore and east of Oban.
The scheme has been redesigned to comprise 11 turbines — one fewer than an earlier layout after discussions with Argyll and Bute Council — and independent work commissioned by the developer estimates that total investment could exceed £100 million over the project's lifetime.
Galileo Empower has opened the portal so that local suppliers and contractors can explore opportunities that may arise during construction and operation. The developer is seeking expressions of interest across a range of services, including civil engineering, electrical contracting, plant hire, waste management and hospitality. To promote local participation, Galileo is working with Bid4Oban and other regional organisations.
"We’ve already directed a number of contracts to local businesses and the launch of this supplier registration portal is an important next step in ensuring local companies are aware of potential opportunities and are well placed to benefit should the project receive consent," said Ross Jamison, Senior Project Manager at Galileo Empower.
Projected local impact and planning status
The developer predicts that construction would support around 100 local jobs and that operations and maintenance could generate in excess of £5 million per year in local expenditure. In addition, the proposal includes a community wealth fund estimated at about £19 million to be distributed over the lifetime of the wind farm.
An application for consent under Section 36 of the Electricity Act was lodged with Scottish Ministers in January 2025. Following consultation, the Energy Consents Unit is still considering the application after Galileo provided additional environmental information.
How to engage and what local businesses should know
Businesses wishing to be considered for potential contracts are encouraged to register through the supplier portal. The portal is intended to gather details so that, should planning consent be granted, the developer can easily identify local companies with relevant skills and services.
- Services sought include civil and electrical contractors, plant and machinery hire, waste management and hospitality providers.
- Galileo is collaborating with Bid4Oban to increase awareness among Oban-area firms.
- The supplier portal does not guarantee contracts but is a first step to be notified of opportunities.
