Wakefield Trinity produced a crushing response to adversity as they ran out 52-14 winners over local rivals Castleford Tigers in the Rivals Round Returns at DIY Kitchens Stadium on Friday evening.
Eight tries after a sending-off
The victory was remarkable not only for its margin but for the circumstances in which it was achieved. Wakefield were reduced to 12 men when Matty Storton was shown a red card in the 22nd minute, yet the hosts went on to score nine tries in total, with eight of those coming after the dismissal.
Storton had opened the scoring inside the opening minute before Tom Weaver drew Castleford level. Wakefield then took control before half-time with tries from Caius Faatili and the returning Max Jowitt, and they turned the screw in the second half.
