Clackmannanshire Council has imposed a temporary closure of Blackfaulds Street in Coalsnaughton while investigations continue into ground movement that earlier forced the evacuation of 256 residents.
What has been closed and who it affects
The restriction, which came into effect on Thursday 16 July, covers Blackfaulds Street from its junction with the southern section of Blackfaulds Road up to the Blackfauld Livery. The route is closed to motor vehicles; however, the council has said pedestrian access will be maintained.
Signage will be installed at the nearby A908 and B9140 junctions to inform drivers of the closure. The authority has not given a timescale for how long the measure will remain in place, saying the position will be under ongoing review.
“The closure has been authorised for safety reasons and to protect pedestrians and equestrians using the route.”
Safety and practical implications
The council’s decision seeks to balance public safety with access for non-motorised users. Residents and road users should expect:
- no through traffic between Coalsnaughton and areas beyond the Blackfauld Livery;
- retention of footway and equestrian access where it is safe to do so;
- temporary signage on A908 and B9140 directing drivers away from the closed stretch.
At this stage the authority has not provided further operational details about alternative vehicular routes, roadworks or a timetable for reopening. The closure follows the earlier precautionary evacuation of more than 250 people while engineers and council officials assess the extent and cause of the ground movement.
| Location | Restriction | Access maintained |

What residents should do
People living in and around Coalsnaughton should look out for council signage on the A908 and B9140 and follow any local diversion routes. Those directly affected by the earlier evacuation should continue to follow guidance from the council and emergency services. The authority has said the closure will be kept under continual review, and further updates will be issued as investigations progress.
InfoRadar will publish further information when the council releases updates on the investigation, safety assessments or an estimated reopening date for the road.
