Bucks Council has unveiled a new five-year corporate plan that sets out how the authority intends to support residents across the county. The strategy, branded "stronger Buckinghamshire together", outlines five headline priorities designed to shape decision-making, investment and service delivery until at least 2031.
What the council will focus on
The plan is framed as a commitment to local people, with the council saying it will publish regular updates on progress and an annual report evaluating outcomes. A publicly viewable performance dashboard will track how the authority believes it is meeting each objective.
"This plan is our commitment to residents and our ambition for Buckinghamshire's future. We want Buckinghamshire to continue to grow as a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and feels that they have a stake in the county... Working with residents, businesses, partners and community organisations, our focus will be on delivering meaningful improvements that residents can see, feel and benefit from in their daily lives."
The quotation above is from Councillor Steve Broadbent, leader of Bucks Council, who framed the document as both an aspiration and a pledge to tackle practical challenges.
Five priorities explained
The corporate plan names five central themes that will guide council action. They reflect longstanding local issues such as housing and connectivity, rising demand for social care and the need to run efficient public services:
- Opportunity and aspiration for all – supporting access to skills, education and employment.
- Shaping great places – promoting sustainable growth and maintaining attractive, well-connected towns and villages.
- Thriving communities – improving health, safety and community resilience.
- Supporting the most vulnerable – ensuring quality care and early help for those who need it.
- Quality and value – delivering trusted services efficiently and making best use of public funds.
| Priority | Focus |
|---|---|
| Opportunity and aspiration | Skills, education, employment |
| Shaping great places | Sustainable growth, connectivity |
| Thriving communities | Health, safety, resilience |
| Supporting the most vulnerable | Care quality, early support |
| Quality and value | Efficient, trusted services |
Context and pressures
In presenting the plan the council acknowledged the operational pressures it faces, notably a growing number of residents requiring care and support and rising demand for services. The document is therefore intended both as a policy guide and a tool for transparency: residents will be able to see progress via the council's online dashboard and in annual reports.
How the council balances these aims with budgetary constraints and service demand will be closely watched by residents, community groups and partner organisations. The plan emphasises collaboration with local businesses and voluntary groups as part of delivering measurable improvements.
Details of the corporate plan and the performance dashboard are available on the council's website.
