Passengers using c2c services through West Ham and Barking face late-evening disruption on Sunday 14 July and Monday 15 July due to planned engineering works. Trains will be diverted, finish earlier than usual, or miss certain stops, with ticket acceptance in place on parts of the London Underground.
What is changing and when
According to c2c’s service alterations, routes on the Rainham, Basildon and Ockendon lines will be affected across the two days. On Sunday night, services between Fenchurch Street and Barking wind down just after midnight, while on Monday evening there are earlier cut-offs and diversions, including between Barking and Upminster from later in the night.
Sunday 14 July: last departures and late-night changes
Trains from Fenchurch Street will cease shortly after midnight. After the final services listed below, remaining trains will start or terminate at Liverpool Street, Barking or Upminster. Stations affected include Limehouse, West Ham and Barking. c2c states passengers may use their tickets on the Underground at no extra cost.
| Route | Last train from Fenchurch Street (Sun) |
|---|---|
| Grays via Rainham | 11.50pm |
| Shoeburyness via Ockendon | 11.55pm |
| Shoeburyness via Basildon | 12.03am |
Monday 15 July: earlier finish, diversions and skipped stops
Further works begin on Monday evening. Disruption is expected from 8.45pm between Fenchurch Street and Barking, and from 10.45pm between Barking and Upminster. Trains will be diverted to Liverpool Street, calling at Stratford but not at Limehouse or West Ham. The final departure from Fenchurch Street before diversions take effect is the 8.29pm to Shoeburyness via Basildon, which will run fast to Shoeburyness after Pitsea.
| Change | Detail (Mon) |
|---|---|
| Fenchurch Street last to Shoeburyness (Basildon) | 8.29pm (fast after Pitsea) |
| Liverpool Street last to Shoeburyness (Basildon) | 9.52pm |
| Fenchurch Street last to Shoeburyness (Ockendon) | 8.11pm |
| Rainham line last from Fenchurch Street | 8.23pm (diverted to Liverpool Street) |
From 10.45pm, services will be routed via Grays, with no calls at Upminster, West Horndon, Laindon or Basildon. A shuttle will operate between Upminster and Pitsea via Laindon to maintain links on that section.
Alternative travel and ticket acceptance
c2c says tickets will be accepted on alternative routes at no extra cost during the disruption. Options include:
- District line services between Tower Hill and Barking
- Jubilee line services between Stratford and West Ham
- The DLR on specified sections, as indicated by c2c
Advice for Newham passengers
Travellers using West Ham and nearby stations should check last-train times carefully, allow additional time for diversions to Liverpool Street, and confirm whether their train will call at usual intermediate stops. Those intending to interchange with the Tube or DLR late at night are advised to verify live running information before setting out.
For the latest updates, consult c2c’s online service alterations calendar and live departure boards. If travelling after the listed last departures, plan to board from Liverpool Street or use Underground alternatives where ticket acceptance applies.
