Ceredigion has secured 10 Green Flag awards in the 2026 list published by Keep Wales Tidy, recognising high standards of management, safety and community value at parks and green spaces across the county.
Who and where
Two full awards went to university campuses: Penglais campus at Aberystwyth University and the Lampeter campus of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. A further eight community awards were presented to local spaces:
- Aberporth Village Hall Recreation Ground
- Coed Y Bont, Pontrhydfendigaid
- Denmark Farm Conservation Centre, near Lampeter
- Gardd Enfys, Cardigan
- Llanafan Women’s Institute Wildlife Garden
- Penparcau Community Hub
- Silian Village Green
- Tircoed
What the awards mean locally
The Green Flag is widely used as a benchmark for well-managed green spaces that are safe, welcoming and valued by local communities. For Ceredigion the awards highlight both institutional and grassroots work: university estates teams are recognised alongside volunteer-run village greens and community hubs. That mix matters for residents because it reflects where people encounter nature and organised outdoor activity — from student campuses to smaller village sites relied on for informal recreation and local events.
National context and figures
Across Wales a record 330 parks and green spaces achieved Green Flag status this year, with a notable increase in community award winners. The national picture underlines that the drive to improve and maintain public green spaces is being sustained by councils, charities and volunteers alike.

“Wales is truly setting the standard when it comes to outstanding green spaces, with 330 places recognised in this year’s Green Flag Awards.”
Practical consequences for residents and volunteers
The recognition can help sustain funding bids, encourage local volunteering and promote tourism by signalling quality to visitors. For community groups it is also an acknowledgement of months — often years — of day-to-day upkeep, habitat work and event organisation. For universities, the awards reinforce commitments to high-quality campuses that support student wellbeing.
Locally, recipients may now use the Green Flag status in publicity and grant applications, and the accolade may strengthen partnerships between town councils, community organisations and educational institutions. Ceredigion’s mix of rural villages and larger population centres like Aberystwyth means these awards touch different audiences: families, walkers, students and conservation volunteers.
Keep Wales Tidy has administered the Green Flag awards in Wales since the scheme’s inception in 1996, and this year’s results underscore the continuing importance placed on accessible, well-managed green space for health, biodiversity and community life.
