The popular Skate, Scoot & Bike event is returning to Chichester Skatepark on Sunday 6 September, organisers have confirmed. Run by Chichester District Council, the free day runs from 11am until 4pm behind the Westgate Leisure Centre and aims to get families and young people trying wheels-based sports in a welcoming setting.
What to expect on the day
Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or scoot to the skatepark where there will be demonstrations and coaching from recognised names in their fields, plus activities for those new to these sports. The line-up includes:
- Chichester-based rollerblader Jamie Stenner of ESP skate shop
- BMX demonstrations from the Fusion Extreme stunt team
- Scooter coaching from record breaker Terry Price
Equipment will be available to borrow so people of all ages can try out skateboarding, scootering and BMX riding and build their confidence on the ramps.
Family activities and community partners
Beyond the sports demonstrations there will be music and a variety of family-friendly attractions, including a Nerf ‘Battle Zone’, a pop-up spray studio, a mobile climbing wall and facepainting. Food and drink stalls are set to attend and a number of local organisations will have stands, such as Vintro Clothing, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and Chichester Rotary.

Council backing and local importance
Chichester District Council built and funded the skatepark and sees the annual event as a way of promoting the facility and encouraging people to develop skills in a safe atmosphere. Councillor Harsha Desai, the council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Communications, Licensing and Events, said:
“This is the third year that the Skate, Scoot and Bike event has taken place, and after last year’s fantastic turnout this event is set to bring even more hands-on fun in a welcoming and inclusive setting. There will be something for everyone, whether you’re completely new to these activities or already enjoy two-wheel sports. The skatepark is such a valuable local community facility that was funded and built by Chichester District Council. This is a brilliant opportunity to motivate people to build their skills in a fun, inclusive environment with some leading experts who will no doubt wow everyone with their abilities.”
Community skateparks often act as hubs for young people and families and can play a role in nurturing local talent. The event organisers highlight that several world champions began their journeys at Chichester skatepark, and the day is designed both to showcase high-level riding and to remove barriers for newcomers by lending equipment and offering coaching.
Getting there and practicalities
Organisers have asked attendees to travel actively where possible — walking, cycling or scooting — to keep parking pressure low and make the event more sustainable. Those planning to try equipment for the first time should consider bringing protective kit if they have it; loaned equipment will be available but sizes and quantities may vary.
