Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone IPA beef pie lands on menus at Gloucestershire pubs

A new slow-cooked beef and beer pie made with Hawkstone IPA will be available from 3 August in nearly 500 Marston’s pubs across the UK, including nine venues in Gloucestershire such as the Black Horse in Cirencester, the Kingsbridge Inn in Bourton-on-the-Water and the Clock Tower in Cheltenham.

Pub-goers across Gloucestershire will soon be able to sample a new beef and beer pie created with Hawkstone IPA, the brewing brand founded by television presenter Jeremy Clarkson.

What’s on the plate

The dish, produced in partnership between Marston’s and Hawkstone, is a slow-cooked pie using British diced beef and pulled beef cheek. The meat is cooked in a gravy made with Hawkstone IPA and combined with seasonal vegetables and Barber’s Cheddar, all enclosed in a shortcrust pastry. It will be served with vegetables and a choice of either chips or mash, depending on the individual pub’s menu.

Customers will also be able to order a bottle of Hawkstone IPA alongside the pie in participating venues.

Where to try it in Gloucestershire

The launch rolls out from 3 August and covers almost 500 Marston’s pubs across the UK, including nine venues in Gloucestershire. Local pubs named on the initial list include:

  • The Black Horse, Cirencester
  • Kingsbridge Inn, Bourton-on-the-Water
  • The Clock Tower, Cheltenham

These outlets are among the first in the county where diners can order the new pie once the rollout begins.

Background and local context

Hawkstone was established in 2021 and sources barley from British farms. Its IPA was recognised at the World Beer Awards in 2025, where it was named England’s best IPA.

The collaboration with Marston’s places the new pie on a wide network of pub menus, which will matter to diners looking for seasonal pub food that pairs with a locally distributed beer. For pubs in market towns and larger centres across Gloucestershire, such tie-ups can boost evening trade and give menus a fresh headline dish.

What to know before you go

  • The pie becomes available from 3 August in participating Marston’s pubs.
  • Serving accompaniments (chips or mash) depend on the pub.
  • Bottles of Hawkstone IPA should be offered alongside the dish where the pub stocks them.

Anyone planning to visit should check with their chosen pub — particularly if they want a specific side or to confirm the pie is on that venue’s menu when they arrive.

This story was compiled from the announcement of the Marston’s and Hawkstone partnership and the list of initial Gloucestershire venues provided in the rollout information.
