Film at Lincoln Centre in New York has released the trailer for Scary Movies XIV, its annual season of genre cinema that opens on 12 August. The line-up blends new work, North American and US premieres, and restored prints of landmark films — and tickets are already on sale.

The series opens with Casper Kelly’s new film Buddy, starring Cristin Milioti and Topher Grace, and closes with The Threshing, a new picture from Sean Mannion about a couple trapped in an isolated commune. Among the other features listed for the season are:

“With boundary-pushing horror films and genre offshoots breaking box-office records ... audiences today have resoundingly backed the hypothesis that there will always be an appetite for art that scares us,” said Madeline Whittle, Film at Lincoln Center’s programmer.
