Manchester will welcome a first-of-its-kind McDonald’s pop-up next weekend, with a dedicated ‘Sauce Shop’ opening for two days in the Northern Quarter. The free event, hosted at Black Milk on Oldham Street, will run on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, showcasing the fast-food chain’s classic dips alongside new summer flavours and a series of interactive features.
Two-day pop-up in the Northern Quarter
Described by the company as its first space focused solely on sauces, the venue will feature a floor-to-ceiling display of dip pots. Visitors will be able to sample well-known favourites such as Sweet ‘n’ Sour, Sweet Curry and Barbecue, as well as try out new limited offerings from the summer line-up, including Hot Honey, Ranch and Korean BBQ. The hot honey flavour underpins several of the season’s additions, extending to a burger and a McFlurry.
Giveaways and customisation
The first 100 customers each day will receive a voucher for a free portion of three Chicken Selects, redeemable at participating city centre restaurants in Piccadilly Gardens, the Arndale and St Ann’s Square. Inside the pop-up, a ‘Sauce Customisation’ station will allow visitors to personalise a limited-edition dip pot with a nickname or a short phrase. A live printing photo booth will also be on-site for those wanting a memento in front of the shop’s feature wall of sauces.

Timing with wider menu changes
The pop-up arrives shortly after a change to how customers can buy Wrap of the Day, which since 14 July has been available only via the McDonald’s app rather than in-restaurant kiosks. Reaction to parts of the new hot honey-inspired menu has also been mixed. One social media user commented:
“Hot honey mini McFlurry? wtf.”
What it means for city centre footfall
The Northern Quarter typically draws strong weekend crowds, and a branded experience of this scale is likely to add to footfall on Oldham Street. With giveaways limited to the first arrivals, queues are possible; those planning to attend may wish to prepare for a busy atmosphere and check local transport in advance. For city centre businesses, the event provides another draw during the summer holidays, with nearby cafés and shops likely to benefit from increased passing trade.
Black Milk’s role as host underscores how high-profile brands continue to tap into Manchester’s independent venues to reach audiences. For residents and visitors, the attraction is straightforward: a free, short-run showcase of familiar and new flavours, a chance to personalise a keepsake, and a modest food offer tied to three central McDonald’s restaurants.
