Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have launched an active investigation after two women reported being sexually assaulted in Rochdale on the morning of 25 July. Officers believe the incidents – one in Broadfield Park and the other in Milnrow Memorial Park – may be connected.

What happened and when

The first report was made at about 6.15am, when a woman said she had been assaulted at Broadfield Park by a man she did not know. The second was reported at 8.38am, relating to an assault at Milnrow Memorial Park, again by a man the victim did not know.

Suspect description and sightings

Detectives are looking for a black man who was believed to be wearing either a three-piece suit or smart black clothing with a dark coat, and who was carrying a suitcase. Officers say CCTV captured a man matching this description leaving Coco Lounge in Rochdale town centre at about 5am.

"We have a robust investigation underway and are working at pace to identify and locate the man responsible. Detectives are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and we are committed to identifying whoever is responsible and bringing them to justice."

Police response and appeal to the public

GMP have increased patrols in the areas affected. Residents should expect additional officers in Broadfield Park, Milnrow Memorial Park and Rochdale town centre over the coming days to provide reassurance and support for enquiries.

  • If you were in the area on the morning of 25 July and saw anyone matching the description, contact GMP.
  • Police are particularly keen to trace any CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage from Rochdale town centre, Broadfield Park or Milnrow Memorial Park.
  • You can submit information via 101 or GMP's Live Chat, quoting incident numbers 679 and 880. Anonymous tips can be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The force statement emphasises that even seemingly small pieces of footage or a recollection that feels insignificant may help detectives. Officers hope the combination of CCTV enquiries and public leads will swiftly identify the person responsible.

Local people are being urged to remain vigilant. If you feel unsafe or see anything suspicious, call 999 in an emergency.
