Plans for a Welsh‑medium primary and sports pitches go on public display
Local people are being invited to scrutinise and comment on proposals for a new Welsh‑medium primary school, provisionally called Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Ogwr, on a site north of the Princess Way roundabout in Brackla.
The scheme, which is currently at the statutory pre‑application stage, sets out a primary school building together with sports pitches, lighting, parking, drainage works, landscaping and other associated engineering works. The consultation opened on Friday 17 July and has been deliberately extended beyond the usual period to allow more time during the school summer holidays.
How to view the plans and make representations
All of the consultation documents, including drawings and supporting material, are available to view online via the developer's consultation webpage. Those wishing to make representations can do so in several ways:
- Email: [email protected]
- Post: Asbri Planning Limited, Unit 9 Oak Tree Court, Mulberry Drive, Cardiff Gate Business Park, Cardiff, CF23 8RS
- Online: using the feedback form on the Asbri Planning consultation page
The statutory consultation window has been extended to six weeks, and all comments must be received by Friday 28 August 2026.
What the proposals include
The application documents describe the proposed development as a new Welsh‑medium primary school sited on land north of the Princess Way roundabout. In addition to the classroom accommodation, the plans include:
- Sports pitches with floodlighting
- Dedicated parking and access arrangements
- Drainage and landscaping works alongside associated engineering works
At this pre‑application stage the developers and planners are seeking local feedback to shape a formal planning application that will be submitted at a later date.
Why the consultation matters locally
Decisions about new school places and sites have direct consequences for families, local travel and community facilities. A new Welsh‑medium primary would increase provision for parents seeking Welsh‑language education in Bridgend county, and the associated sports facilities could be important for local clubs and after‑school activities. Responding to the consultation is the opportunity for residents to raise practical concerns about traffic, parking, drainage, landscape impact and the day‑to‑day operation of the school.
