Wokingham Borough Council has launched an early-stage consultation asking people across the borough to help shape a new library strategy. The council says it wants to understand how residents use library services, what they value and which services should be prioritised going forward.
Why the council is asking for views
Councillors say libraries are more than repositories for books: they are community hubs that provide opportunities to learn, socialise, access digital support and take part in activities for all ages. With local government finances under strain, the council is seeking evidence from residents to ensure services continue to meet needs while making the most effective use of resources.
No decisions have been taken at this stage. The consultation is described as an early opportunity to influence a draft strategy, which will itself be subject to a further public consultation later this year.

The council has published a short online survey that it estimates takes around five minutes to complete. It is open to anyone who lives in the borough — whether they use library services regularly, only occasionally or not at all.
