Worcester firm Worcester Bosch has this week opened sign-ups for a new training route designed to help gas installers retool for the low-carbon heating market. The programme, called Skill Up Training Programme, offers a four-stage curriculum combining online learning with practical sessions at the company's training academies.
What the programme offers
The scheme takes installers from basic heat pump understanding through to advanced diagnostics and split-system installations. It is structured so participants can work at their own pace and pick up modules as their businesses require. The four levels are:
- Level 1 — Foundations: core principles of heat pump technology, system parts and installation essentials;
- Level 2 — Installer: deeper installation techniques and supported first installs;
- Level 3 — MCS-Ready Installer: training to meet the standards needed for Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registration;
- Level 4 — Expert: advanced refrigeration circuits, split heat pump systems and fault-finding.
Costs, incentives and timing
Course costs are published as approximate figures: around £800 to reach practical installer capability at completion of level 2, with the full pathway costing in the region of £2,000. Members of Worcester Bosch’s loyalty scheme can use accumulated points towards the training. The offer arrives as the heating market reshapes under measures such as the government’s Clean Heat Market Mechanism, increasing demand for certified heat pump engineers.
