Haringey Council has set out a borough‑wide programme of free and low‑cost summer activities for children and young people. The offering spans green spaces, leisure centres, museums and youth hubs and is designed to be inclusive, with sessions colour‑coded to indicate the level of support available.
What’s on and where
Highlights include free tennis coaching provided by the council’s leisure partner Access to Sports at a number of parks: Chapmans Green, Chestnuts Park, Down Lane Park, Downhills Park (for ages 5–11), and Finsbury Park and Priory Park (for ages 5–16).
Swimming for under‑16s is being offered at a reduced price: sessions cost £1 at Park Road Leisure Centre and Tottenham Green Leisure Centre (the offer excludes the Lido). Parents should note that children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.
- Project 2020 is hosting arts and crafts, cooking, music, gaming, street gym and trips on the ground floor of Kenneth Robbins House, Northumberland Park.
- Bruce Grove Youth Space and the Rising Green Youth Hub are running art, baking, boxing, cooking and music production for ages 11–19; provision extends to those up to age 25 with SEND.
- Bruce Castle Museum will run arts and craft sessions and Markfield Beam Engine and Museum will hold open days ahead of Haringey’s year as London Borough of Culture in 2027.
Support for families on low incomes
The nationally funded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is included in the summer offer. HAF provides activities and nutritious meals for children and young people aged 5–16 who are eligible for benefits‑related Free School Meals, helping families access childcare and healthy food over the holidays.
To ensure events are as accessible and inclusive as possible, we’ve colour coded them (Blue, Green or Yellow) to show what level of support our providers can offer.
Practical information and accessibility
The council asks residents to check the colour‑coding and contact providers directly if they need further details about support or accessibility. Not all activities are universal; some target specific age groups and some sessions have accompanying requirements (for example, adult supervision for the youngest swimmers).
| Activity | Locations | Age range / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tennis (free) | Chapmans Green, Chestnuts Park, Down Lane Park, Downhills Park, Finsbury Park, Priory Park | 5–11 at some parks; up to 16 at Finsbury Park and Priory Park |
| Swimming (£1) | Park Road Leisure Centre, Tottenham Green Leisure Centre | Under 16s; excludes the Lido; under‑8s require adult accompaniment |
| Youth clubs and skills | Kenneth Robbins House, Bruce Grove Youth Space, Rising Green Youth Hub | Activities for 11–19; up to 25 for those with SEND at some provision |
For many households, these activities present a chance to access structured, supervised provision close to home and to forestall gaps in childcare and enrichment over the long school break. The inclusion of museum events and preparations linked to Haringey’s upcoming London Borough of Culture year in 2027 also signals a wider cultural offer for families.
Residents seeking to book or find specific session times should consult the council’s online listings and contact individual providers for accessibility queries and confirmation of eligibility for HAF places.
