Magistrates have imposed fines, costs and penalty points in a number of motoring cases involving residents from across Caerphilly county in hearings reported this week.
Penalties for uninsured driving, speeding and licence offences
Among those listed in the latest court round-up was Nicolas Husar, 20, of Bolton Road, Newport, who pleaded guilty to using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without insurance and to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He was ordered to pay a total of £288 in fines, costs and surcharge and had eight penalty points added to his driving record.
Other local residents were dealt with for a range of offences which included failing to provide driver identity details, keeping vehicles without required insurance or a valid licence, and speeding in restricted zones.
- Lauren Draper, 23, of Dafalog Terrace, Phillipstown, New Tredegar: ordered to pay £1,044 in fine, costs and surcharge for failing to give information identifying a driver; six penalty points were endorsed on her record.
- Cory Driscoll, 28, Rectory Road, Swffryd, Abertillery: fined and ordered to pay £418 for speeding in a 20mph zone; five penalty points added.
- Sophie Prince, 32, Tredegar Street, Cross Keys: fined with costs totalling £232 for speeding in a 50mph zone; three penalty points.
- John Thomas, Nursery Crescent, Rhymney: fined £220 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £66.25 in back duty for keeping a vehicle without a valid vehicle licence.
Businesses and others also prosecuted
The round-up also named a company and other individuals who faced court action. Positif Care Ltd, of High Street, Abertillery, was ordered to pay £1,044 in fines, costs and surcharge for failing to give information relating to identifying a driver or rider when required.
Another defendant, Richard Exall, of Pontnewydd Walk, Cwmbran, was required to pay £408 for keeping a vehicle which did not meet insurance requirements.
