London Luton Airport (LLA) has announced that adult passengers flying from the airport will be able to ride selected local bus services free of charge throughout August 2026, provided they show a valid printed or digital boarding pass. The month-long initiative is intended to encourage travellers from across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire to leave their cars at home and use public transport to reach the terminal.
How the scheme works
Passengers flying during August can board specified Arriva and Stagecoach services without paying a fare by presenting evidence of their LLA flight. The offer covers return journeys completed by 31 August 2026. It does not apply to National Express or Greenline coaches.
- Eligible Arriva routes: 101, X1, X2, X3, X4, A and Z.
- Eligible Stagecoach route: MK1.
- Valid areas include towns such as Stevenage, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Bedford and Dunstable.
Practical benefits and service levels
Some of the services operate around the clock, and frequencies in Luton can be as often as every seven minutes, meaning passengers can be dropped close to the terminal entrance. The airport says the offer complements the Department for Transport’s existing summer concession for children aged five to 15, which may make whole-family journeys to the airport possible at no cost for many households.
“This is a fantastic initiative and a great example of how we continually look to extend our simple and friendly passenger experience far beyond the terminal doors,” said Alberto Martin, chief executive of London Luton Airport.
Representatives from the bus operators emphasised convenience and cost savings for travellers. Toby France, commercial director for Arriva Midlands, described the scheme as an opportunity for families to save on airport travel, while Stagecoach East’s managing director, Darren Roe, highlighted the bus as an alternative to taxis, trains and parking.

What travellers should know
Passengers planning to take advantage of the offer should ensure they carry a valid boarding pass for an LLA flight in August, either printed or on a mobile device. Journeys on excluded carriers such as National Express and Greenline will not be covered. Return travel must be completed by the end of the month to qualify.
For local residents and regular airport users, the move could reduce demand for short-term parking and drop-off areas during what the airport expects to be its busiest summer on record. The airport and participating operators are positioning the scheme as both a cost-saving measure for passengers and a way to ease congestion around the terminal.
