Luton Town have secured the permanent transfer of Callum Marshall, the 21-year-old Northern Ireland international forward, from West Ham United ahead of the new League One campaign.
Move brings stability after successive loans
Marshall, who has represented Northern Ireland 15 times at senior level, arrives at Kenilworth Road after a sequence of loan spells that took him to several clubs, including West Brom, Huddersfield Town and German side VfL Bochum. The striker told club staff and close advisers that finding a club where he belongs was a major factor in his decision to make the move permanent.
"People around me, like my agent and my dad – people I would speak to for advice – they say, 'You need to belong somewhere'. Marshall has experience of contributing at different levels. While on loan at Huddersfield he was named the club's player of the season. At VfL Bochum last term he scored twice in 16 appearances. He arrives at Luton with the intention of securing regular first-team football and becoming part of a squad aiming for promotion.
Reunion with Jack Wilshere seen as factor
The move reunites Marshall with Jack Wilshere, who is in charge at Luton. The pair have history dating back to youth football: Marshall scored against an Arsenal youth side coached by Wilshere in the 2023 FA Youth Cup final. That familiarity, and meetings with Wilshere and the coaching team, were cited by Marshall as persuasive in his choice to sign.
