Police have arrested a man after a cyclist was injured in what officers describe as a knife attack in York city centre on Thursday evening.

North Yorkshire Police said the incident took place in Museum Street at 20:08 on Thursday, July 23. A man in his 50s, from Leeds, was riding a bicycle when he suffered slash wounds to his head, face and hand. He was taken to hospital, treated and discharged later the same evening.
A 37-year-old suspect was detained at 20:17, nine minutes after the reported assault, the force confirmed. Officers secured the immediate area, including Museum Gardens, to enable a forensic examination.

The suspect remains in custody and is being questioned in connection with an alleged offence of Section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
