A proposed indoor water park and hotel complex backed by US operator Great Wolf Resorts has prompted officials in Nottinghamshire to highlight the potential for a major boost to local jobs and visitor numbers.

The scheme, which is located over the Derbyshire border but sits just a short distance from Nottinghamshire, would include a 512-bedroom hotel, indoor water attractions, restaurants and family leisure facilities. The developer has indicated the resort aims to attract around 500,000 visitors a year.
In a formal consultation response to neighbouring Bolsover District Council, Bassetlaw District Council — which covers nearby towns including Worksop — said the proposal looked likely to generate "significant net job creation" for the area, though it asked the applicant to provide evidence supporting these claims.
"Given the scale of the proposed water park, hotel, restaurant and conference facilities, the application appears likely to generate substantial economic benefits through employment, tourism and inward investment, provided these benefits are robustly evidenced [by the applicant's planning documents],"
The comment was made by Julie Beresford, Bassetlaw's head of growth and economic prosperity. Council officers have asked for details showing a commitment to local labour, apprenticeships and local procurement, alongside suitable transport arrangements for visitors and staff.

Great Wolf Resorts, which operates a network of indoor water park resorts in North America, has previously suggested the development would require around 600 staff to run attractions including miniature golf, a ropes course and a mix of table-service and buffet restaurants.
