Pompey move to trim midfield options
Portsmouth have indicated that Luke Le Roux will be allowed to depart Fratton Park this summer, with head coach John Mousinho confirming the club is open to a loan or permanent transfer for the South African midfielder. Le Roux, who arrived in July 2025, has made 16 appearances and has found regular football elusive on the south coast.

“We have spoken to Luke about maybe trying to get him some game time elsewhere, that is something all parties are aligned with,” Mousinho told The News. “There has been interest in him... We would probably look for a loan - but we are open to either a loan or sale.”

Mousinho said the club had held discussions with Le Roux at the end of last season about pathways to more minutes. While praising the midfielder’s influence when used, the head coach acknowledged expectations on both sides had not been met over the course of last season.
Le Roux featured in Saturday’s friendly against Bristol Rovers, one of nine substitutes introduced in the 62nd minute during a 1-1 draw. Pompey are next due to play a pre-season fixture at Wycombe on Saturday (25 July), with squad adjustments expected beforehand as the club works through options for outgoing movement.
International ambitions on hold
Le Roux joined Pompey as a current South Africa international, aiming to strengthen his position for future tournament selections. However, since arriving at Fratton Park, he has not added to his national caps, and those ambitions have been put on pause amid limited minutes.
Mousinho reiterated that the midfielder remains a positive presence around the group but needs a platform to play regularly. The club has been monitoring his workload and fitness through pre-season to ensure he is ready should a suitable opportunity arise elsewhere.
