Several streets in Dudley town centre will be closed for most of Saturday 18 July as organisers create a traffic-free area for the annual Dudley Pride celebration.
When and where
Road closures are scheduled to be in effect from 07:00 to 21:30 to allow the event to take place safely around Stone Street Square. The free community event begins at 13:00 under a large marquee and will include music, stalls and performances.
Which roads will be affected
Several central routes will be closed to through traffic. The following stretches are included in the closure order:
- High Street – between Wolverhampton Street and Stone Street
- Stone Street – from High Street to Priory Street
- Tower Street – from Stone Street to New Street
- Court Passage – from Stone Street to the rear of 7 Stone Street
Dudley Council has said the measures are in place to ensure the event can be held safely and to protect both attendees and the wider public.
Planned diversions and access
Motorists will be directed around the closed area using a set diversion route. Drivers should expect to be diverted via the following roads:
- Wolverhampton Street
- Parsons Street
- Ednam Road
- Priory Road
- New Street
| Closed section | Suggested diversion |
|---|---|
| High Street (Wolverhampton St – Stone St) | Wolverhampton Street / Parsons Street |
| Stone Street (High St – Priory St) | Ednam Road / Priory Road |
| Tower Street (Stone St – New St) | New Street |
| Court Passage (Stone St – rear of 7 Stone St) | Local access where possible |
The council has indicated that residents and emergency services will still be able to gain access where it is safe to do so. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys and to follow diversion signage on the day.
Stone Street Square will host a packed programme under the marquee, with sets from local DJs and other entertainment intended to celebrate Dudley’s LGBTQ+ community. Attendees planning to travel by car should consider nearby parking options outside the restricted zone or using public transport where possible.
Further updates and any last-minute changes will be published by Dudley Council ahead of the event; anyone with concerns about access on the day should contact the council’s events team.
