A teenage motorist has died following a collision between two cars on the B1281 near Blackhall Colliery, Durham Constabulary has confirmed.
What happened
Police were called to the scene on 2 August after reports of a serious crash involving a Volkswagen Passat and a Citroën C3 travelling in opposite directions. Officers say the driver of the Volkswagen, a 19‑year‑old man from Hesleden, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Durham Constabulary say the incident left several people injured and that collision investigators attended. The road was closed while enquiries took place but has since reopened.
Casualties and hospital treatment
Among those taken to hospital were three passengers from one of the vehicles and the driver of the other. Police have since confirmed all four people taken to hospital were discharged after treatment.

Police appeal
Durham Constabulary is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage showing either vehicle prior to the incident to come forward.
