Bedfordshire Police are investigating after a 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds following an incident at Kingsway Recreation Ground in Luton on Friday evening and died shortly afterwards.
What happened
Officers were called to the park at about 6.30pm following reports of disorder involving a number of teenagers. Witnesses reported seeing several young people allegedly carrying large knives. The injured 17-year-old was conveyed to hospital but died a short time later.
Police response and arrests
Initial police activity resulted in the arrest of teenagers in connection with the disturbance. Bedfordshire Police have since confirmed that two boys who were arrested on Friday have been re‑arrested on suspicion of murder.
“Horrific violence in Luton has sadly cost a teenage boy his life today… Our thoughts are first and foremost with the loved ones of the boy who lost his life in such tragic circumstances,” Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardener said.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit is leading the inquiry. Detective officers have appealed for anyone who was in or around Kingsway Recreation Ground at the time to come forward. They have also urged people not to share images or videos circulating on social media and to pass any material directly to the police.
