Firefighters from across Nottinghamshire and neighbouring counties worked through the afternoon to tackle a large field fire close to the A453 near Clifton. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) said they were called at 3.07pm on Thursday and deployed a substantial response to the incident off Green Street in Barton in Fabis.
Substantial multi-station response
At the peak of the operation crews from several stations were at the scene. NFRS confirmed the following attendance:
- Six fire engines from Nottinghamshire stations
- Additional support from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service
- Water carriers supplied from Worksop and Loughborough
| Station | Role |
|---|---|
| London Road | Response pump |
| Highfields | Response pump |
| East Leake | Response pump |
| Tuxford | Response pump |
| Stockhill | Response pump |
| Worksop / Loughborough | Water carriers |
Residents living nearby were urged to keep doors and windows closed while plumes of smoke rose into the air. NFRS issued a statement from crews at the scene:
"We are currently in attendance at a fire on Green Street in Barton In Fabis. Please keep doors and windows closed if you live nearby."
Impact and current status
Photographs from the scene showed large swathes of field blackened by fire. By around 6pm the blaze appeared to be largely under control and traffic in the area had returned to normal, according to local updates. This incident comes days after a separate large fire near the former Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station on Sunday, July 12.
Local people were advised during the emergency to remain cautious while smoke was present. As with any nearby conflagration, advice from emergency services was to avoid the area where possible and to follow official updates from NFRS.
The fire was treated as a breaking incident and crews were able to bring the situation under control without further reported escalation up to the time of the last update. Authorities have not given further details on the cause or on any potential injuries.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who witnessed events in the Green Street area during the afternoon, should follow guidance from local emergency services about reporting and safety.
